Calculating Vince Russo’s creative energy

Lots of internet wrestling marks like to deny Mr Russo credit for writing the Attitude era, peddling all sorts of nonsense about his WCW run being bad (it wasn’t, and we all know the internet marks have never watched it) and so on and so forth.

Most infuriating, for anyone who has ever actually put pen to paper and attempted to write something, is the idiotic notion that a man who was putting together a densely written two hour show every single week was having a significant number of his ideas “filtered out” by another man.

We’ll completely ignore for the time being the fact that he simply was not being filtered, and that it was widely reported by the likes of Wade Keller that by the summer of 1999 – when Russo and Ferrara were writing four hours of TV a week with the introduction of Smackdown – Vince McMahon wasn’t even reading the scripts they wrote because he had so much trust in them.

Instead let’s assume that the “filter” theory is correct and try to work out just how creative Vince Russo was.

He wrote 52 weekly episodes of Raw a year, or 104 hours of television.

By the summer of 1999, he was also writing a second weekly show for a number of months, bringing his rate of output to 208 hours of television a year.

Now if Vince McMahon really did filter out 99% of his ideas like the hornyackers always claim, this means that for several months in 1999 he was producing creative at a rate of 20800 hours of television a year. That’s amazing!

For comparison it took the writing team behind The Sopranos eight years to produce 86 hours of television – that’s a rate of a mere 10 hours and 45 minutes of creative a year. Russo is, under the assumption of the filter, 1,934.9 times more creative than the entire team behind The Sopranos. Incredible!

He is also 4,790.55 times more creative than William Shakespeare and 21,666.7 times more creative than The Beatles.

He must surely go down as the single most creative person in recorded history if you trust his most loyal haters. His brain should be donated to science and the Oxford English Dictionary should recognise ‘hornyacker’ for the sake of preserving the English language in its full richness.
